Change is in the Air at Facebook

Facebook News Feed

Last week Facebook announced that they were making changes to the newsfeed.  I sat down with Alexis Zotos (and fellow St. Louis transplant now living in Knoxville, TN) from WATE Channel 6 to discuss what’s changing on Facebook, and why it matters to you.  See the video below, but the short version is:

Facebook Newsfeed Changes

  • Larger. The newsfeed is larger, and making room for bigger photos.
  • Segmented. You’ll be able to choose between different streams of activity.  So instead of all of the updates in one big list, you can click a button and only see photo updates, or see another segment of what your friends are listening to.
  • Synced. The mobile, tablet and desktop versions of Facebook are all different and the new changes will bring alignment to how they operate and look.  They’ll feel much more similar than they do today.

Facebook had a lot to say about this, but at the end of the day, the changes are happening because they need to keep their 1 billion users engaged.  By removing the cluttered feeling and simplifying the newsfeed users will be able to see more of what they want, when they want it.
